All Is Bright box and Tags and Tidings and Custom Boxes

We have a lot of fun as a Stamping Team - we call ourselves Friends Craft and Care.  Twice a year there is a challenge packet.  Each member gets a bag of paper, some ribbon, sometimes embellishments from a suite in the new catalog.

This set featured the All is Bright paper.

You can make anything: a card, box, tag, sampler, decor, whatever you like.

Here's this entry from my friend MaryBeth

She made a cute box and filled it with 3 x 3 cards and tags from the Tags and Tidings set.

And here are the Stampin Up projects (I think MaryBeth's could easily go into the catalog!)  

Here's out to figure out custom box sizes.  First decide on your finished box size, in this case finished at 3 1/4 x 5. Now decide how deep the base needs to be. So in this case 1" deep.

So you add 1" for each side of the width so 3 1/4 = 1+1+3 1/4 = 5 1/4
And you add 1" for each of the of the length so 5= 1 +1+5=7
that's your base cut it at 5 1/4 x 7 and then trim of 1/16 of an inch on 2 sides (just a hair so the lid fits nicely over the top).

Now create your lid it also measures 3 1/4 x 5 finished, but the lid edges are not so deep, in this case 3/4".
so ... 3/4 + 3/4 + 3 1/4 = 4 3/4
and 3/4 + 3/4 + 5 = 6 1/2
cut your paper 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 and score at 3/4

Then it's as easy as trimming the tabs and making the box.
