Simple cards from Floral Phrases

Sometimes the simplest cards are the best!

These ones are notecards (20 for $6, already cut and scored with envelopes), with a cut out of the navy floral paper (navy has retired but this pattern in now in the 5 gorgeous in-colors), a 5 x 1/2 strip of navy "paper ribbon" and a thank you stamp!

I love to package things so I put them into a glassine bag... sadly these are going away. Today is the last day of the current annual catalog ... so get your favorite retiring items today before midnight!

We'll be creating this card as part of the in-color class this Saturday. I'll post the projects tomorrow - a gift bag and 2 or 3 cards, you choose the color and the design of the cards

Team Challenge Entries - do you have a favorite?

Each week we have a team challenge.. and the winner selects a stamp set of their choice!  Any set! And the random number generator selects the winner.. so no pressure just fun.

Here's this weeks challenge and entries.  (You saw mine yesterday, Memorial Day inspired me!)

This one from the very talented Susan Loughrey who always does a matching envelope.  Super pretty and really a simple card that I will likely shamelessly copy :)

This one is from Janey Backer of Inspired Stamping, love the new Daisy paper!

This one is from Vicki Eisenbeisz, how clever to use the sets from the last catalog (retiring May 31) with the new in-colors that come in this week (June 1).  That's a fun sentiment too.

Wendee Jones used the Jar of Love... I think it was my favorite set of the current catalog and so happy it continues!! Love the wood paper and petal burst texture.

I love these cards above from Barbie Poirier and Diana Michaud with the new Seasonal Colors Set - this is my new favorite in the new 2017 -2018 catalog.  And mine is the Memorial card I posted yesterday.

How fun to see all these great ideas.

Hope this inspires you to join our team.  All the fun, zero obligation, creative ideas, get 20% off everything Stampin Up, no need to hold a class or sell anything...make it what you want!  You choose your own kit (select $125 of anything), pay $99, no shipping.  Keep your account or let it drop..entirely up to you.  Email me for details MaryKate@MaryKateScott.com

Happy Memorial Day weekend

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Thank you to all our military and military families for all you do.

A simple card but I hope it says it all.  The "thank you" is from the new Daisy set, the star is from the Star Framelits and the colors are Watermelon Wonder and Dapper Denim.

The paper... is the other side of the Cool Treats Sundae paper.  Love these stripes!

Have a safe, happy weekend! Happy crafting, MaryKate

Jar of Love Easel Card

This is a fun idea that has been copied a few times, so I'm not 100% sure who designed this .. maybe Connie Stewart.  Becky Roberts did a cute version and her card was my inspiration.

Here are all the ingredients, including a small window sheet, Jar of Love set and inks.  You'll need a base jar and a front jar, the front jar has the cut out (and yes there's a die for that!)

I love the new in-colors so they are the hearts inside the jar.

Foam strips make it super easy to make shaker cards.

So.. the easel back is 1 x 7 3/4 scored at 2 1/2, 3 1/2, 4 1/2, and 7

So.. the jar is really an easel and it comes right out of the card.... so it's a card and then it can be a little bit of desk decoration.

The photo to the right shows the easel jar tucked into the front of the card (I used my trimmer to put a 1 1/2 slit about 1 1/2 up and 1 1/2 over.)

I think this would be a fun birthday card too.

What do you think?  I think this has got me going and I'll be posting some new Jar of Love cards this week.  Don't forget that the bundle price (10% the set of stamps and dies) is only good til May 31.  But... great news, it's in the new catalog.

Haven't got your new catalog yet?  email me MaryKate@MaryKateScott.com and I'll put one in the mail to you.

Team Color Challenge - of course I used Cool Treats!

These are fun easy to make shopping/task list tags.  I clip mine to my wallet/wristlet and jot down all the things I need to remember.

Anyway this week's challenge was to use the colors peach, pool party, vanilla and crumb cake.

Of course I had to add some sprinkles to the cone!

If you want to make these you need scraps, index cards (cut 2 x 3), the scalloped tag topper punch and 1/2" binder rings (you can buy them anywhere, I bought mine on Amazon).

We have such a great team... if you are interested, you can become a demonstrator as a hobby and just enjoy the 20% discount or take it as far as you'd like.  The kit is $99 and you choose $125 of anything and free shipping.  No obligation to buy anything further or keep your account.

And you are part of our fun team, lots of creativity, ideas, weekly challenges (like this one) where you can enter to win a free stamp set.  Winner is chosen by the random number generator... so it's easy and no pressure!
And yes I do make cards and boxes and bags and tags in things other than Cool Treat ice-cream cones!!!

Pop of Paradise Replacement Knee card

My friend has just had a knee replacement ... and I thought this cute flamingo from Pop of Paradise might just make her smile!

The background gold foil is 4 x 5 1/4 (and before you adhere it, but out the large oval from this foil -- see you didn't know that that foil was used twice!!).

The designer paper is from Pop of Pink and is cut at 3 3/4 x 2 and 3 3/4 x 3, I love the gold accents on this paper, and the matching washi tape.. .the paper and washi retires May 30 but the Pop of Paradise with the Flamingo stays!!

The little 1/8" gold ribbon (around her knee) also retires.  But we do have fun new colors and ribbons coming.

I'm offering a ribbon and paper share, email me and I'll send you the details ($43 for a 1/4 share of ALL new paper) and there are several ribbon options.

If you have not yet received a catalog from me, just let me know and I'll put one in the mail to you today.

High Tide By Your Side with Vellum Overlay

I made this card for a special friend is Strasborg CO.  I used the very popular High Tide set and for the first time didn't stamp a lighthouse (we are a bit crazy about our lighthouses in Maine).

The top layer is vellum - you can stamp on vellum, really let it dry so it doesn't smudge.

The bottom layer (I'm holding up the vellum) is the retiring paper with the photography look and this is the ocean paper.  I dry embossed on the waves with the Seaside embossing folder.

Kraft rope embellishment with a reef knot (yes I was a Girl Scout!).

Done!  Easy but I think really pretty.

Happy crafting, MaryKate

Updated edit - to answer questions:
Vellum is 4 x 5 1/4
Island Indigo is the blue cardstock, 4 1/4 x 11 folded in half
Crumb Cake and Island Indigo ink
Stazon ink for the black greeting
Kraft rope is the accessory
Paper is now sold out (if you want anything that is retiring, jump in quick, things go fast).

What do you think?  Will it be a favorite for the year?

Paper pumpkin is a monthly subscription, about $20 a month (a little less with a subscription) and everything is included in a kit to make cards or other paper craft projects.

Paper Pumpkin - what did you love from the 2016 projects?

Hi... so the Paper Pumpkin special offer (25% off for first time subscribers) sparked questions.. and the #1 was:  what do I get??  So, if you were a subscriber in 2016 here's what you would have received in your mailbox...click below for the 2 minute video

Do you have a favorite?  My top 3 favorites were February, March, and November (and if I got to pick a 4th it would be October).  I love the card sets.. some people love the 3D projects!

And... which one do you think had the most requests for refills?  (Refills are $8 and including all supplies ex the ink and stamps - which you can reuse many times).... September.. the Halloween project!

Remember... you can subscribe, or just order 1 month (or 3, 6 or 12), you can return what you don't like and have fun with it!  It's fun to enjoy the surprise and maybe do a project that you might not think of doing.

At Home Bundle ... another new set

It's hard to choose from the new sets, but this one (At Home) caught my eye.  I'm going to use this for summer (for a welcome home to my summer neighbors), fall for Thanksgiving and at Christmas.

I think this might be my swap pick... I'm still deciding, click on the video link (in the image) and see if you agree.

I appreciate it takes a bit more time to make cards with this set as it's 2 step, but I think worth the effort.  What do you think?

Nailed it! Toolboxes, Tool cards and more

LOVE this set and can't believe it's retiring. Set is still available but the dies are not... if you are local to Pittsfield/Hartland, you are welcome to borrow my dies.

We have 3 projects this Saturday.  The first one uses the Hexagon thick embossing folder.  Wow in silver it really looks awesome!  You could do many sentiments on this card, happy birthday, happy Father's day, this one is for a thank you for some great bow makers :)

This one is a stepper card. I've seen this with flowers but I thought I could make it into a tool box.

and this is a Tiny Toolbox, the handle is the classic label punch. Lots of great sentiments in this set.

I'll post instructions later this weekend under the Ideas tab.

If you love this set, I'd get it fast.. so many of the retiring things have gone quickly.

Stamping on Tiles

These coasters are made by Lori S. ... I think they are just wow!  We did some stamping on tiles at my class recently (we did 2) and she went home and made 16!!!

I had a lot of requests for the information on how to and the products.   So details below.

The stamp set is High Tide... a personal favorite and it will also be in the new catalog so happy it's not retiring.  You can buy it in my online store, if you wish.  Below on the right is the catalog page so you can see all the stamps.

Quick edit to the post... the tiles are 4x4".. seems my photography got a bit wonky sorry! MKS

The key to stamping on tile is to use Stazon Ink, and then spray with Krylon

1.Wipe the dust off the tile (if your cloth is damp let the tile dry), I used tiles from Home Depot, you get 9 tiles for $3.97 (in the floor/wall tile section).

2.Plan your stamping… I draw a 4 x 4 on my grid paper and figure out where I want my images and sentiment. For my sentiment I find a part of the tile that is smoother, and not so porous.
3.Stamp your images, make sure you use Stazon that is “wet and inky”, you want to have a lot of ink on your stamp
4.Stamp firmly.
5.If you don’t get a perfect image, really it’s ok, it’s a tile, but if you wish you can color in with a Sharpie (and this is a way to add color)

6.Your stamp will be stained… Stazon is permanent but it doesn’t affect your stamps

7.Spray the tile with Krylon outside (it’s fumy!)  (I bought mine from Amazon $6.50)
8.Let it dry a good hour preferably 2 hours

9.The next day add the cork sheet (I bought mine from Amazon 24 sheets 3 ¾ square for $12.50) they are self adhesive.  Search “coaster cork backing”.

We created several cards as well as the coasters and an LLBean bag to mach.  Here are some of the things we made... cute!!  email me MaryKate@MaryKateScott.com for the patterns or the information.

More on the Colorful Seasons and Color Theory suite

I got some many comments from you all on this new set!  So here'a video so you can see all the details on the set and dies, and the matching designer paper and ribbon.   Click on the link (arrow in the image) and see all the details :)

And there's ribbons to match and embellishments.  I think if you like the set "Sheltering Tree" that goes across all the seasons, then you might like this too.

How to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin

This is a quick video on how to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin which is Stampin Up's monthly crafting subscription.

In essence you can choose to subscribe for 1 month, 3 months, 6 or 12 months, it's $20 a month and a little less with a multi-month subscription.

I'll be honest as I always am!!  Mostly I really like it, and lately the projects have been awesome.  Usually about 1 in every 6 months it's not my thing...so I blow a bit "hot and cold" on this!!

The crafters that LOVE it say they really like getting a kit that can be
-taken anywhere (if they travel)
-a great way to get current seasonal stamps (so Valentines stamps arrive in January, Easter in February etc)
-an easy way to build up a great stamp and ink collection (you get stamps and ink in every kit)
-finished in 30-60 minutes
-used for many projects, not just the ones it was designed for

What if you really don't like it that month ....you can either
-ship it right back for a 100% refund (easy peasy, happy to help)
-watch this blog for alternative projects using the supplies
-give it to someone who likes this "look"

Anyway, check it out at paperpumpkin.com
and thank you for considering me as your demonstrator.
