Do you remember last summer when we created boxes that closed with a butterfly?? This is just like that but a mini version. The closure is a hole made by the classic label punch. This time it is with a heart (anything that is symmetrical and it's length is less than the hole opening works great!!)
Real
Red 3 ½ x 8 ½
Scraps
of Whisper White for the heart
Score
the real red at ½ on each side of the short 3 ½” side
Score
– with the long side on top – at 2 ½, 3, 5 ½, 6
Fold
on the all the score lines with a bone folder
Trim
the 4 “ ½ square tabs” off completely
Now
create a slot for the closure on the front of the box.
Use
the classic label punch (or your trimmer, or the retired word window punch) and
make a hole. I like to punch a shape out
of a post it and then put the post it note on the front so I line it up well.
Then I punch the post it shape out.
Now
adhere the 2 ¼ square designer paper on the front. Turn the paper over and
punch out the closure on the designer paper.
Trim
the top two longer “tabs” from the front of the box (see yellow arrows!). I don’t think my photos show this
(sorry!)
Now glue the sides (I used tear
and tape so you could see where I glued it but snail or white glue is just
fine)
Now
stamp a greeting and punch out with the heart punch. Fold in half and adhere in the opening. I
used Tombow
white glue on the crease of the heart. and held it steady for a good 2 minutes J
I
added some silver hearts, you might add some rhinestones. The box ends up 2 ½” square ½“ deep;. Insert a Ghirardelli chocolate and give it
away!
We did this at class last week - I hope you join us for our next class! Check out the classes by clicking the tab above "workshops and events".
happy crafting, MaryKate
